Description

The Canes Files is the first installment in a collaborative effort between brothers McConnaughay and Scott Moore.

The series chronicles the stories of a fox named Vulpecula Noel and a dog named Sanec Barker. Presented as an episodic series, each ‘season’ consists of six episodes apiece, six of The Life and Crimes of Detective Barker and six of The Adventures of Vulpecula Noel.

The Fox Detective Vulpecula Noel is a social-anxious, empathetic crime-solver who solves mysterious throughout Maharris. All’s well and good, at first, offering quaint, ‘mystery of the week’ style stories until he finds himself thrust into the dark criminal underbelly of Urgway.

Meanwhile, Detective Sanec Barker is a detective for the Urgway Police Department who aspires to ascend the ranks and change the perception that’s had about dogs (since the fall of the infamous Canes Vinatici group), even if it means committing crimes and debaucheries along the way.

I first stumbled upon Nicholas and Scott’s series The Canes Files at a local Comic Con in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. I hadn’t heard of them before that, but I always try to use these events as a way to support upcoming artists (I’m an artist myself, after all)!

Anyways, I didn’t know what to expect – what is initially introduced as a modest Sherlock Holes – esque Episode of the Week format gradually evolves into a much darker, far more ambitious series altogether.

I won’t say it’s perfect – it does feel like there is an identity crisis at first, but, once it gets going, it REALLY gets going.

    Highly recommended.
