.EXE is trudging full steam ahead!
In my first update, I introduced you to my novel Spade, a crime black-comedy I intend to release early next year. In my second update, I shared with you how it was being brought together and my initial reaction to it. It is now about eighteen days after that update, and I am happy to share that I’ve since added another 7,000 words to Spade, bringing its current total up to 20,500 words. I believe the novel is coming together very well, blending elements of comedy with the cut-throat, desolate backdrop of its world. The only current fear I have is that it might exceed my original goal of 100,000 words and end up substantially more than that. If that’s the case, I might have to consider writing a sequel to Spade down the line in-order to make sure all of my ideas and ongoing subplots are provided the opportunity to breathe.
In one story arc, Spade tells the tale of Officer Jean Marx – a policeman from the beat-down slums of Urgway, who relocates to Hardan when he realizes his wife is pregnant. His hope is that by moving to Hardan, where the crime-rate is significantly smaller, he will have a better chance of staying out of harm’s way. Everything changes when The Ashland Vulture starts abducting children and becomes the first serial killer Hardan has seen in decades. This forces Jean Marx to ask himself what’s more important – protecting his daughter or being alive to see her grow up?
Those who are interested in reading Spade won’t have to wait until next year to read what I’ve come up with thus far either! Early this month, I made the announcement of Mashers Club, a new subscription service which will see the online release of many novels like The Red Flux, Katalene, The Canes Files, and more, but will also share many of my works in progress. On-launch, Mashers Club will see the release of Spade’s first chapter.
In my second update, I unveiled the second book I would be working on for Exercise ‘N Excess, tentatively titled The Canes III. Although I don’t have an update on The Canes progress just yet, I can tell you I intend to start writing the next installment as soon as I can. With any luck, I might be able to have The Canes III one-third of the way finished by the end of June.
Finally, it’s time to reveal the third novel that will be released for .EXE 2020, another novel Scott and I are collaborating on called The Chosen Two. It’s all still in early development, but like with Spade, you will be able to read the work-in-progress for The Chosen Two right here on Mashers Club, with the first installments coming out on July 21st. The fantasy series sees Scott and I each take our own unique characters and embark on unique, adventurous journeys all set in a brand-new world. As of this moment, I am at about 10,000 words for my part of The Chosen Two, with our intentions being to write 50-60,000 words apiece. My intentions right now are to focus the rest of June on The Adventures of Vulpecula and Spade respectively, but I do hope to pick back up on The Chosen Two in July.
I hope you guys have enjoyed this look into my current progress for 2020, which will certainly be my busiest year ever as a writer.
