Late last month, I announced my intent to unveil a new Mishmashers event called .EXE (Exercise 'N Excess) where, on October 31st, I intended to publish six novels all the same day. This was a spur of the moment declaration made in the heat of determination, but I want to stick with it - * with a small change. My goal is to publish six novels in 2020, but I've decided to opt for a more conventional piece-meal approach. The current goal is to publish a novel every two months of 2020.
Backpedaling, already? Perhaps, but this approach will allow me to bring my novels to conventions across the Midwest. It will also allow me to make certain that I can dedicate an adequate amount of time and attention to each of the novels as far as marketing is concerned.
Since embarking on my current conquest, I've begun writing a new novel called Spade. As of right now, I am six-thousand words into developing Spade (cover featured above). I am also nine-thousand words into another project I have worked on since announcing my goal two weeks ago, which goes to show how much setting the objective has driven me so far. What is Spade, you might ask?
Spade has been my Moby Dick for many years. The beast I couldn't conquer. Until now. I have tried to write the novel so many times over the years. I've outlined, then, I've subsequently thrown away. I've started from scratch, then, thrown that away as well. In-fact, the novel in its current form is a conglomerate of two concepts I brought together (Spade and another idea for a book I had called "This is Fiction"). The novel blends elements of crime-drama, akin, perhaps, to The Canes series I've worked on with my older brother, but with a much sharper-edge, as well as serial-killer mystery. The novel focuses on several different perspectives, coming together for one coherent over-arching narrative.
.... and .... that's it so far.
After all, there is a lot of time between now and 2020 and I have a lot of work to do.
